Oh no! Not another design podcast! That’s right, this isn’t. This show is not about design techniques or tools or even clients or users. This show is about you.
As designers, we often know our customers better than we know ourselves. In the midst of our passion for human-centred design, we tend to forget that there’s a human within us, a human with needs and emotions. And we go through our careers unfulfilled by the work we're doing and disillusioned by its impact or the lack thereof.
Design Feeling is a new podcast and community platform aimed at design thinkers, people gatherers, dot connectors, technologists and creative problem solvers who want to increase their self-awareness, creative confidence and meaning.
Join Nirish Shakya, Design Thinking Consultant, Educator and Coach, and his expert guests as they explore the human behind the human-centred designer. Their mission is to help you become a more empowered problem solver with a clearer mission for others and more compassion for yourself. It’s a mix of interviews, mentorship calls and solo shows from Nirish you’re not going to want to miss. Hit subscribe and get ready to deconstruct the designer in you.
[00:00:00] Nirish Shakya: Okay. So here's the thing. As designers, we often know our customers better than we know ourselves. So who is the human doing the human centered design and what are their needs?
Hi, I'm Nirish Shakya, and I'm a designer, educator, and the host of my new podcast Design Feeling. Most of the time, you'll probably find me helping organizations put their customers first, or you might find me teaching design thinking and creative innovation, but I'm on a slightly different quest here to explore the human behind the designer, who you are. What drives you? What frustrates you and why, and ultimately how you can bring more impact and meaning into your work?
On this podcast, my expert guests, and I will be uncovering ways to increase your self-awareness, creative confidence and meaning.Maybe you're lacking some career direction or satisfaction,
[00:01:03] Kate Pincott: Designer satisfaction has a lot to do with intentionality. The ultimate design quest as a designer is to design our ourselves.
[00:01:11] Nirish Shakya:Or maybe you want to express your own needs as a designer,
[00:01:15] Carlos Saba: you need to acquire the language of needs. Every act we been enact in our lives is driven by a feeling and is tied to a need that needs to be met or hasn't been met.
[00:01:27] Nirish Shakya: Or maybe you're looking for tools to understand yourself better.
[00:01:31] Jason Mesut: It's almost like, holding a certain mirror up to yourself and you seeing things that you may not have seen for a while or ever before. And I think that's incredibly powerful.
[00:01:39] Nirish Shakya: You see, one of the things that the pandemic has taught me is just how short life is and how fast the world changes. And regardless of what you want to do in the time you have left. Whether you want to make the biggest impact or whether you want to just be, you need to understand yourself first.
